The first resident has staked out her claim and is firmly ensconced in her new home. The Carrington is a retirement community in Lincolnwood, currently under construction and set to open its doors this fall. Not in the need of doors, or in fact, walls, floors, or plumbing, the first tenant is in fact an expectant mother duck who has built a nest and laid five eggs on the premises of the very busy construction site. Discovered around Independence Day, the duck is affectionately known as The Carrington’s very own Fire Quacker. Despite the presence of heavy equipment, active workers, and loud construction noises, Fire Quacker has unwaveringly held her ground, guarding her eggs diligently. Soft-hearted construction workers from Charles Hall Construction of Westmont, have taped off the area to prevent any unintentional trespassing.
“We take this as a great sign of things to come,” said Stephen Kennery, executive director of The Carrington. “Native Americans believe ducks to be spirit animals symbolizing a strong sense of community and sociability. That is a perfect representation of how we visualize our future (human) residents…active, engaged and with a strong sense of community.”
The Carrington will offer incomparable independent living, assisted living and memory care. The numerous amenities within The Carrington will include a library, indoor pool, media center, auditorium, chapel, multiple dining options, scheduled housekeeping, ample parking, and an on-site EMT station.
“In the heart of Lincolnwood, our location is really ideal. Our campus is a 13-acre pedestrian-friendly site with outdoor courtyards and pathways, close to beautiful Lincolnwood Centennial Park. We also have easy access to Lincolnwood Town Center Shopping Mall which boasts Carson’s, Kohl’s, and many boutiques and popular eateries. We are within close proximity to diverse houses of worship, many medical and professional offices and abundant cultural opportunities. So, we have virtually everything you might want or need, within steps of our front door,” said Kennery.
The Carrington is set to open late this fall. “You might say we’re just getting our ducks in a row,” quipped Kennery.
